In the world of TTM, there are different types of rules, whose consideration should be taken at very different levels. These are known as RULES, LAWS, and GUIDELINES. Definitions of each are below, and TTM Rules and Guidelines are also documented herein. The Laws are found within the module itself. The first-person author is Kithra of the Northern Steppes, our head honcho.

Definitions:

RULES - These are the Server rules, and those breaking them find the penalties severe. You might be gaoled, but even more likely you will booted, and banned. It is *always* my sincerest wish this will not be necessary - I dont like banning anybody !. We would rather talk to violators, first, and try to convince them into following our Code of Conduct.

In the case of a violation, our DM's will contact you either "in person" or by email/IM if possible, and issue you a private (POLITE!) warning. WE WILL DO SO ONLY ONCE, however, in the case of severe misbehavior, or possibly more than that, for lesser violations.

If we cannot issue such a warning (many individuals, for instance, those with hacked characters or items, actively try to avoid the DM's), we will still take action!

The penalties for breaking (most) rules is straightforward, we will follow a "3-strikes" rule:
First Infraction - you will be banned for a week.
Second Violation - banned for a month
Third - Banned indefinitely. This is a PERMANENT ban unless you convince me, the module designer and head DM, that you should be allowed back into TTM.

I also will sometimes ban for 72 hours only, especially with first-time violators, just a little reminder that our rules are to be obeyed.

These penalities are completely ARBITRARY - that is, they are not set in stone. If your violation is considered severe enough, I might just ban you permanently, right then and there. This is especially true for persons bringing in hacked/hex edited "cheater" characters or items, OOC harrassment, PK (Player Killers)'s, spamming DM's email, etc. I determine the penalties as Module Lead Designer and Lead DM. The DM involved will recommend a penalty to me for your actions, I will review the matter, and make a decison.

REDRESS: This means, having your suspension lifted. ALL SUSPENSIONS/PENALTIES MEANS YOU MUST EMAIL or OTHERWISE CONTACT ME TO HAVE IT LIFTED! Even for the 72 hours suspensions!

....and state your case, or apology/desire to reenter TTM. Note that in almost all cases I will value the DM's word over your own. It is helpful for you (possibly), if you have the screenshot of the conversation and you zip it and send it along with an email explaining why you think you should be reinstated. Witnesses are also helpful, but if they are not neutral in the case (i.e, they are your friends), their words will be considered heresay, for the most part.

LAWS - these are IC - that is In Character - Laws of the Realm. They are (usually) ONLY enforced in a IC fashion. For example, pick pocketing is against the laws of Goldmoore. If you are CAUGHT (caught being the keyword, here), you could be killed by the Guard, gaoled, hanged, your head cut off, etc. The more talented lawbreakers are *not* caught.

GUIDELINES - These are generally NOT enforced at all, but are simply guidelines we'd like to see followed while you are in TTM. For instance, not using LEET speak, or bringing in a "Name" character, like Drizzt, Raistlin, Elric, Hitler, etc.

Finally:
IGNORANCE OF THE RULES, LAWS, AND GUIDELINES IS NOT A VALID EXCUSE for breaking them. PERIOD.

Okay, here they are. This list is not all-comprehensive, and, in events of things not covered by it, our on-site DM's make the judgement call.

RULES OF THE SERVER
-------------------------------------
1. "ATTACKING" the Server.
The list includes, but is not limited to:

A. LAYING TRAPS IN PUBLIC AREAS. It's too bad we can't allow this to be role played, but too many have chosen to abuse it, and this is considered a direct attempt to drive people away from our world. Currently, "PUBLIC" areas are considered to be your arriving ship, the harbor, the city streets, and the bar areas of any Tavern.

B. NO HEX EDITED/HACKED Characters or Items in our world. Individuals caught will (usually!) be permanently banned on the first violation. Cheater characters ruin the role play for all.

C. NO "PK-ING" in TTM. This is entering the module expressly for the purpose of killing as many creatures as you can. You won't even go through our court system, you will just be banned. There are plenty of "arena" modules out there, but we are not one of them.

D. HACKING: SPAMMING DM'S EMAIL, hacking into our Server, gaining our Admin or DM password, by any means, results in a permanent ban from TTM, NO EXCEPTIONS. You will also be reported to the Bioware abuse agency, your ISP will be contacted, and possibly the Police of your local area. This also includes CDKEY Hacking, hacking into our Forum's Admin account, and other offenses.

2. Abusing the DM's: Directing obscenties, open derision, insults, sending harrassing public or private messages, etc. to our DM's is not tolerated. Our DM's work hard to provide you with a quality RPing experinece, and we provide this to you for FREE.

3. Deliberate and repeated Spell Spamming or Chat Spamming is not allowed.

4. NO repeatedly abusing exploits or "loopholes" in the NWN game or the TTM module, i.e, avoiding the Item Stripper, for example, are tolerated. We try to provide a *fair* environment for all to play in. By cheating in the game, you are not only cheating others, but yourself.

5. NO DRAGON CHARACTERS, NO "NON-EVIL" UNDEAD, NO BALORS, NOR ANY GIANT-CLASS MONSTER PC's IN TTM. Sorry, we simply cannot support some of these creatures, others are not allowed (such as ludicrous "Good" Undead), and, besides, any of them entering the city would be slain in short order by the Guards and/or the Wizard's College. The only exception to this Rule is our DM's, who often will play Dragons, Giants, etc - they earn the privledge of using greater Server resources.

6. Animal characters will be limited to the statistics in the Advanced Dungeons And Dragons™ Monster Manual™, including HD (level), number of attacks, damage, hitpoints, magical abilties, et al - with ONE EXCEPTION - Intelligence.

Any creature not listed in the Manual (such as penguins) have 1 (ONE) HD -that is, are first level only, and are not allowed to gain levels in the manner of an adventurer. Animal characters are limited to wearing the following:
1. Two rings
2. Necklace or Medallion
3. Gloves (simulating claws or similar appendages)

Creatures found with equipped or carried items violating the above rule will be stripped of them the first time (including levels), repeatedly violating this rule will result in you will becoming subject to increasingly more severe penalties. We are ADnD, not Pokemon!

TTM GUIDELINES (strongly suggested rules of conduct)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Do not bring in nor create "Name" characters, for example, playing Drizzt, Legolas, Dracula/Alucard, Lestat, Wulfgar, Raistlin, Hitler, and/or other famous names from fiction or Real Life. You will be at best ignored, at worst, ridiculed.

2. Avoid excessive OOC statements, except in private messages, or parties formed to talk OOCLY. We are not insane about this guideline, OOC statements, occasionally made, are fine, but keep extended Out Of Character conversations private.

3. Try to avoid using LEET SPEAK except in OOC comments, for example, "LOL", "ROFL", "CUL8R", the number "2" instead of "too", etc. Your character will not be taken seriously if you continually do this.

4. People committing excessive typos might find themselves attacked by the insidious Typo Demuns! :)
